'My work tends to be created in series that reflect my interests, both in subject and medium at the time. I am currently experimenting with mixed media and collage as my work becomes more abstract in its response to the initial subject.
In my landscapes I aim to capture the essence or atmosphere of a place or time through sketches and photography. These inform my memories back in the studio where the final pieces evolve using a wide variety of media. In my still life pieces I try to distill my response through shape, colour and pattern.
I am fascinated by the marks and traces I can make upon paper, board and canvas and therefore my work, although having a fixed starting point becomes fluid and develops through the interaction between myself and the marks I am making. As a result representation becomes secondary to the painting's surface where tonal and compositional harmonies and tensions structure the final result.'
